My friend challenged me to create something with a ‘history to it’. I love thinking creatively and I came up with this ginger jar. I created the pattern myself using peonies as my inspiration. Fauna and flora are a great design motif when working on decorative elements and items. They always feel familiar, close and mysterious to me and I wanted to incorporate these feelings in this jar. But it was too perfect when finished so I decided to break it to pieces and put it back together with the marvelous technique of kintsugi. I will quote Mr. Peanutbutter to give you some inside: ‘The idea behind the Japanese art of Kintsugi is that cracks in an object are part of its history.’
Jar made in 3DS MAX + Zrush, painted in Substance Painter, Peony pattern created in Photoshop. Resolution is 2k
